Providers at Connecticut Neck and Back Specialists will prescribe pain medication for a limited time as a part of surgical care. If ongoing pain management is necessary, patients will be referred to their primary care physician or a pain management specialist.

The soft tissue structures of the neck that are evaluated include nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx, thyroid, lateral pharyngeal space , and other soft tissues. The study is best done with intravenous contrast.

How long after a CT do you have to eat?

Patients on metformin and other oral diabetic medication must not be taken for 48 hours after the CT.

What does a xray show on a body?

In a conventional x-ray exam, a small burst of radiation is aimed at and passes through the body, recording an image on photographic film or a special image recording plate. Bones appear white on the xray; soft tissue shows up in shades of gray and air appears black.

There are a variety of indications for this study, based on the structure or pathology of interest. These include (but are not limited to): 1 Parotid or submandibular gland lesion or infection 2 Head and neck cancers 3 Pharyngeal/retropharyngeal or tonsillar abscess 4 Neck mass or abscess 5 Tongue mass or lesion 6 Foreign body in the neck or upper airway 7 Tumors or infections involving the vocal cords
