Having a PHR can be a lifesaver, literally. In an emergency you can quickly give first responders vital information, such as diseases you're being treated for, medications you take, drug allergies, and contact information for your doctor.
MHS GENESIS is the new secure patient portal for TRICARE. It will eventually deploy to all military medical and dental facilities worldwide and replace the TOL Patient Portal.

If your primary care doctor offers a patient portal, use it. The staff at the front desk should be able to tell you how to register for it. (If your doctor doesn't offer one, ask if one will be available in the future.) Then start taking advantage of its features. Most portals offer the following:
In most cases, you will have to update your PHR manually each time you see the doctor, fill a prescription, have a test or go to the hospital.
In addition, federal laws have been put in place to protect the security of personal health information.

E-VISIT Definition: An e-visit is an online exchange of medical information between a patient and his/her health care provider whereby the provider gives the patient medical advice via secure online communication. E-visits can be used only for non-urgent symptoms instead of the patient calling a clinic, or scheduling an appointment. When initiating an e-visit, the patient must accept the Terms and Conditions in this agreement, verify his/her information, and then complete an online form about his/her symptoms. This on-line form gives the health care provider the information needed to further assess treatment needs.
Now more than ever, patients are relying on MyChart to: 1 Send secure messages and photos to their care team 2 View test results and visit notes, as soon as they're available 3 Request a video or in-person visit, and opt-in to get text message appointment reminders 4 Begin the check-in process online, seven days before an appointment 5 Renew current medications and request prescription renewals 6 View or pay bills or request a payment plan 7 And much more
