How long does it take to get lab results from York Hospital?

About 95% of the lab tests collected at our lab are performed in-house and results are typically available within 24-48 hours. Once received, these results are automatically sent to your provider’s office. Copies of reports are also sent to any additional providers involved in your care as requested by you or your doctor. The remaining percentage of tests (about 5%) are referred to specialty laboratories for analysis. These tests often involve complex methodologies and may take up to 3-7 days to complete. Once the York Hospital Laboratory receives the results, reports are automatically forwarded to the ordering provider. We are happy to provide you a copy of your test results. Simply fill out a “Consent for Release of Confidential Health Information” form available at any of our locations. Once the York Hospital Laboratory completes all in-house testing and receives all send-out results, a copy of your lab report will then be sent to you, or you may visit any of our laboratory locations to receive a copy in person. If you wish to receive by mail, please allow 2-4 days for delivery. Results can also be emailed to you. To protect the privacy of our patients, we are not able to provide results through a general fax number at this time. What if I have questions about my test results? If you have questions about the interpretation of your test results, please understand that our laboratory staff are not permitted to, nor qualified to, interpret any lab results. Therefore, it is best for you to contact your ordering provider for an explanation on how these lab results may be used to care for you.
