Why do people with disabilities need health care?

People with disabilities need health care and health programs for the same reasons anyone else does—to stay well, active, and a part of the community. To be healthy, people with disabilities require health care that meets their needs as a whole person, not just as a person with a disability.

What is baseline reading?

A baseline reading of your blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration, weight, height, vision, hearing and other vital functions depending on your age, gender and level of activity. Recommendations for wellness services and healthy lifestyle changes are done during this visit.

How long does it take for a referral to be approved?

For referrals/authorizations to specialists, allow our referral coordinators 48-72 hours to process the referral. For authorizations for procedures and/or pharmacies, approval is contingent on how your insurance will processes the request.

What to do if you are injured in a car accident?

If you are injured in a motor vehicle accident, you should seek medical attention immediately. We recommend our patients to go to a hospital emergency room. Whether or not you have an injury you should be examined by a doctor and obtain proper care for your own peace of mind. Frequently, an automobile accident injury will not appear immediately. Always seek immediate emergency care after a motor vehicle accident. This is critical in proving that a particular injury arose from the accident. Pfizer Vaccine Update: As of May 12, 2021, the CDC has approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12 years and older. Learn more from the CDC here. Johnson & Johnson Vaccine: As of April 25, 2021, the CDC and FDA recommend use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine resume in the United States, after a temporary pause.

What is the Delta variant?

As cases in Florida are rising due the Delta variant, Southwest Orlando Family Medicine continues to endorse all eligible patients to receive any version of the COVID-19 vaccine currently available. With the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, vaccination is more important than ever. The CDC has classified local community transmission risk as High in Orange, Osceola, and surrounding counties. As a general guideline, when COVID-19 positivity rates exceed 10% locally, patients should adhere to the following: 1 High-risk vaccinated individuals should continue masking in public indoor settings and crowded outdoor settings 2 Low-risk vaccinated individuals should continue masking in public indoor settings and consider masking and/or distancing in crowded outdoor settings 3 Unvaccinated individuals should continue masking and distancing, and get vaccinated

How long do you have to quarantine after exposure?

If you are not vaccinated and have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, quarantine immediately and call us to pre-schedule your test for 7 days after the exposure occurred. Once you have been tested, you will receive same-day results with a clinical consultation.
