Under the law, minors may consent to services for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of certain illnesses including: sexually transmitted diseases and other diseases that must be reported to the State; pregnancy; abuse of drugs or alcohol; and emotional disturbance.
North Carolina state law (NC General Statutes Chapter 90, Article 1A, Treatment of Minors, 21.5) makes special provisions for minors to consent to health care services without the consent of a parent or guardian.
Parents/legal guardians who have received proxy access authorization have full access to records of children under age 12 and limited proxy access for ages 12 to 17.
