Most University academic facilities are open from 7:00 a.m. until the latest evening classes let out. Administrative buildings are generally locked at 9:00 p.m. When the University is closed, all buildings are locked and may be opened only by authorized personnel.
All Xavier buildings are equipped with smoke detectors and fire alarms. In compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Xavier maintains fire prevention plans and emergency action plans for each campus building. These plans provide such information as the type of fire protection equipment or systems available in the building, the responsibilities of occupants to reduce and respond to fire hazards, the personnel responsible for maintenance of fire protection equipment, how a fire evacuation signal is communicated, and where to meet once you have safely exited the building.
The Xavier campus is surrounded by three very different neighborhoods. Our neighbors in Norwood welcome many of our students in off-campus housing and retail stores and venues. Evanston is one of several transitional neighborhoods in the area, and many of our students volunteer in the recreation center after school hours and work with the neighborhood children. North Avondale is one of the oldest, grandest neighborhoods in Cincinnati and is where several faculty members own homes and many students rent, taking advantage of its close proximity to campus.
