Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 17 encompasses most of the state of Texas and has administrative offices in Arlington and San Antonio. Currently, VISN 17 oversees 7 medical centers: VA North Texas, Central Texas, West Texas, Amarillo, El Paso, South Texas and Valley Coastal Bend.

The first National Home, now VA's oldest hospital, opened near Augusta, Maine, on November 1, 1866. They provided medical care and long-term housing for thousands of Civil War Veterans. Many programs and processes begun at the National Homes continue at VHA today.

The Just Culture Algorithm™ is a tool that helps businesses develop an environment where management and staff share responsibility for safety. Managers can use the algorithm to work through the causes of an accident, incident or near miss and work out which systems need updating to prevent the same happening again.
