The UW Med Flight program has long been recognized in air medical circles for its success in providing one of the safest air medical transport services in the country. Every component of the program puts the safety of its patients, crews and workers at the very forefront.
The emergency department at UW Health at the American Center is equipped to handle emergencies, admit patients for hospitalization and transfer adults or children to our Level I trauma center for more specialized needs.
Med Flight staff work closely with first responders to bring a doctor and nurse to the scene, and assist or care for patients. EMS providers can quickly request Med Flight through our app. To download, search for Metro Alert and download Med Flight-UW Health, Wisconsin.

We have three emergency departments (EDs). Two EDs are located at 600 Highland Ave. in Madison.
We treat conditions and injuries that could be life-threatening or pose an immediate risk to your health and well-being. Patients are brought to our emergency departments from around the region, and some can be brought to us by Med Flight, our air and ground critical care transport service.
Our emergency medicine providers work as a team to provide you care. A board-certified emergency physician leads the care team. Others who might be involved in your care include registered nurses, technicians, pharmacists, social workers, child life specialists and respiratory therapists.
Our goal is to see and treat everyone in the ED as quickly as possible.
As noted above, the additional steps are only required if you wish to use the "MedFlight Helo Alert" feature: 1. On the “MedFlight Helo Alert” screen, press “Continue”. (Internet data services are required) 2. Please complete the form by providing all required field information.
Additionally our Medical Control Physicians are available twenty-four hours a day when our crews need an immediate consultation.
Please use your primary agency. The Metro Alert application can only be registered to one agency and local dispatch center per device. When the Metro Alert app is used to request the helicopter while working for a secondary agency, you can notify our Communications Center during the activation process.
