What is UAB student benefit?

This access is referred to as the Student Benefit and allows students to come in for an office visit with a medical provider at no out-of-pocket cost.#N#All procedures, labs, x-ray and immunizations have a cost but are billed to Health Insurance first. Anything remaining after the insurance carrier pays will be billed to the student (most often mailed to the billing address the student has on file).

A “No Show” fee is assessed to all appointments that a student misses or arrives 15 minutes or more late for. The fee is $25 and is applied to the student’s banner account.

Is SHS part of student benefits?

No. Access to SHS is part of the Student Benefit for tuition paying students. This only provides access to our providers at the SHS. Medical insurance, including student VIVA insurance, is completely separate.

Does SHS accept copays?

No. SHS does not accept copays. All office visits are billed to the student’s insurance and if there is anything remaining for the office visit after the insurance pays, that appoint is covered under the Student Benefit (which all tuition paying students are granted as part of their tuition).
