The Health Disparity

Health disparities are defined as differences in the quality of health and the level of health care across different populations. Nowhere are these disparities between the haves and have-nots more eminent than in South Los Angeles, the poorest area in Los Angeles County. It is also the community that UMMA has chosen to serve.

Give Us A Hand

For the past 24 years, UMMA has been an institution of health and healing for the South Los Angeles community. We believe that one’s life expectancy and quality of living should not be pre-determined by zipcode – that all people deserve dignity, respect and the best healthcare services regardless of their ability to pay.

What is UMMA community clinic?

UMMA Community Clinic is a recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) to over 25,000 adults and children living in South Los Angeles. For our patients, UMMA is possibly the only source of health care, and without us, many conditions would go undiagnosed or untreated. UMMA emphasizes the need for regular health maintenance visits, which include routine prevention screenings, immunizations, and wellness evaluations. Patients are provided evidence-based care, education and support to optimize their total health and well- being. In most cases, patients are evaluated by a regular primary care provider, and typically provided any necessary medication at either no cost or low cost depending upon their ability to pay. If a patient requires more advanced tests or specialty care, UMMA will provide an in-house referral to our volunteer specialists or a referral to a local county medical facility.

What are the health issues that UMMA can help you with?

Chronic diseases and conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and arthritis can affect all aspects of life. Let UMMA provide you with the tools to allow you to better manage your health.

Who decides if a telehealth visit is right for you?

UMMA will assess your care needs as well as safety factors related to COVID-19 to determine if you should be seen in-person or by a video visit using telemedicine. Clinicians are initially using telehealth to evaluate the need for an in-person visit.

Video Visits

The patient can talk to and see the nurse or provider in real-time, similar to a Facetime or Zoom call with a family member or friends. Simply log on to umma.doxy.me at your appointment time. More information below.

For Telephone Appointments

The patient can talk to and see the nurse or provider in real-time through a regular phone call. Your clinician will call you at the phone number on record at your appointment time.

Hybrid Visits

The patient can talk to and see the nurse and support staff in-person and the provider in real-time over video, similar to a Facetime or Zoom call with a family member or friends.
