What is gastrointestinal lab?

Tucson Medical Center Gastrointestinal Lab provides the highest level of care and a wide variety of procedures that help with detection and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas and small and large intestine or colon). Gastroenterologists, physicians with advanced training in digestive diseases, examine patients using endoscopes. An endoscope is a long flexible tube with a camera at the tip that is put into the stomach or colon. The patient is sedated for the examination.

What is the procedure that a gastroenterologist performs?

The patient is sedated for the examination. The most commonly procedures we perform are upper endoscopy and colonoscopy.
