Positive coping strategies include but are not limited to maintaining emotionally supportive relationships, self-compassion, meditation, and disengaging from self-sabotaging behaviors such as procrastination, poor hygiene, self-medication with drugs and alcohol, food restriction, binge eating, excessive exercise, and self-injury. 4 Get Moving: Movement and physical activity, such as light walking, housekeeping, and intentional exercise such as running, improves the circulation of white blood cells, prevents the growth and spread of infections by temporarily increasing body temperature, and improves mood by releasing stress-reducing endorphins.
