What is the Sahara bone sonometer?

The Sahara bone sonometer, which provides radiation-free ultrasound technology for safe bone assessment, is a simple, convenient and practical system for the office-based physician.

What is ultrasound bone sonometry?

Ultrasound bone sonometry provides precise quantitative assessment of skeletal status, which is useful in identifying patients at risk of developing osteoporosis and in assessing their risk of future fracture. Hologic offers an ultrasound modality for bone testing with the portable, easy-to-use Sahara clinical bone sonometer.

What equipment is required to perform a bone density test with Sahara?

The entire space required to perform a bone density test with Sahara, including chair, is less than the footprint of a standard office desk. External computer and printer are not required.

What is the Sahara bone sonometer used for?

The Sahara Clinical Bone Sonometer Intended Use/Indications: The intended use of the Sahara Clinical Bone Sonometer is to perform a quantitative ultrasound measurement ofthe calcaneus (heel bone), the results of which can be used in conjunction with other clinical risk factors as an aid to the physician in thediagnosis of osteoporosis and medical conditions leading to reduced bone density, and ultimately in the determination of fracture risk. Saharameasures the speed of sound (SOS, in m/s) and broadband ultrasonic attenuation (BUA, in dB/MHz) of an ultrasound beam passed through theheel, and combines these results to obtain the Quantitative Ultrasound Index (QUI). The output is also expressed as a T-score and as anestimate of the Bone Mineral Density (BMD, in g/cm2) of the heel.

Why is the Sahara waterless?

Sahara’s waterless design is easier touse and more convenient for bothoperator and patients.Ther e’s nomessy clean up, leaks, or signalinterference caused by air bubbles.Direct contact with the patient’s heelalso assures a more accuratemeasurement for better precision andresults you can trust.
