Advance directive. An advance directive is a tool to help protect your medical wishes
A Hospital Charge List (chargemaster ) is a list of medical codes and prices for everything a hospital provides to patients. Each hospital or health system has its own chargemaster list that is used for billing purposes. The chargemaster list is not the negotiated price between hospitals and insurance companies, and is not the price that most patients would pay for care. CMS has required hospitals to share their chargemaster, but it is not the best tool for patients to determine the cost of their health care services. The charges on the chargemaster are not the actual payment rates that hospitals receive. The chargemaster charges almost never reflect the actual amount for which a patient is responsible. The chargemaster will not include fees from physicians who are not employed by Penn Highlands Healthcare yet may provide care to patients.
To further increase price transparency, CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) requires hospitals to make public standard charges for the most common services a hospital provides. One way hospitals are permitted to enact this mandate is to make available an online resource that will provide patients the ability to create their own estimate.
PHH wants healthcare costs to be transparent. By helping everyone understand the costs they are incurring, in the end, no one is surprised.
Also, someone from PHH will talk to you about paying for treatments or services. This will be done before a scheduled procedure and will allow you to have a plan in place to know what the cost is and what is expected.
