What kind of imaging services does the Imaging Center offer?

Our patient-oriented imaging center provides caring and compassionate experience for our patients. We recognize the necessity of radiologic imaging in our patients care; therefore we offer diagnostic CT scans, PET/CT scan, PET/Bone scan, and Ultrasound.

What is MRI used for?

MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a technique used to get detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body. It is a non-invasive, needle-free, safe procedure that uses magnetic fields or radio frequencies to generate anatomical images required for your diagnosis.

How long does it take to get an MRI?

A computer, operated by a technologist, is used to manage the scanning procedure which is located in an adjacent room to keep it away from the magnetic field generated by the scanner. The technologist can see and converse with you from the other room. An MRI usually can take 10-30 minutes, depending upon specific requirements. You are allowed to have a family member or a friend with you during the exam.

What is a 3.0T scanner?

How long does it take to run an IV contrast?

IV contrast requires a simple kidney function blood test that we can run in office in under 5 minutes. No other preparation is required.

Can you hold your breath during an MRI?

Once you are inside the MRI machine, you may be asked to hold your breath depending on the type of scan begins, if you aren’t comfortable, you may be given headphone s to block the noise.

Can you wear jewelry on a scan?

Regardless of the type of scan a patient may receive, it is very important that the patient avoids clothing with any metal zippers, underwire bras, metal clasps, or jewelry. Also, please notify the ordering physician if there is any chance that you may be pregnant.

What is 3D mammography?

3-D Tomosynthesis Mammography is a new FDA-approved mammography technology that produces a series of 1mm thick, 3-dimensional digital images of the breast. Breast abnormalities such as masses, distortions, and asymmetric densities are better visualized with 3-D mammography. As reported in JAMA (6/25/2014), the addition of tomosynthesis to digital mammography is associated with a statistically significant increase in cancer detection rate and a decrease in recall rate.

Unless you require assistance, we ask that ONLY the person scheduled for the imagin g test enter the building. We ask those individuals accompanying patients requiring assistance to wait in a vehicle.

What was the first radiology center to use a PACS system?

St. Joseph’s Imaging was the first Radiology Center to move to a Picture Archival Communication System or PACS. This digital system benefited our patients in many ways. It allowed us to read exams on computer monitors, archive those exams on a computer server and read the images from multiple locations. The difference between film and digital images is much like the difference between your old camera and the newest digital one.
