Do you pay for a copy of a medical record?

Medical Record Copy Fees. A fee for medical record copies may apply. A patient whose records are copied and sent to another healthcare provider for the purposes of continuing medical care does not pay a fee for medical record copies. Request for medical record copies for any use other than medical care may be subject to a fee.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule permits healthcare providers to impose a reasonable, cost-based fee to an individual requesting a copy of medical records. Patients or the patient’s legal guardian will be notified if any fees apply prior to the request being processed.

When did BCH switch to Epic?

On Oct. 1, 2019 , BCH replaced both of its current EHRs with the integrated Epic system. We are excited about the system switch because Epic is widely considered the best and most comprehensive EHR system available. What is proxy access?#N#Proxy access lets an individual view the medical records of another person and make medical decisions for that person. A proxy is a parent or legal guardian of a child; the legal guardian or holder of a health care power of attorney for individuals age 18 or older; or another legally recognized Personal Representative. A Personal Representative is a person who has the authority under state law to consent to treatment on behalf of the patient; including court-appointed guardians and parents on behalf of unemancipated minors.
