Does the Midwestern University Dental Institute accept insurance?

The Midwestern University Dental Institute currently only accepts a very limited number of dental insurance plans. However, as a courtesy, we will provide a copy of the dental claim form for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement once services are paid in full.

What is the role of Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine?

The primary role of the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine’s Clinical Education Program is the training of dental health professionals. The fees we charge cover the operating costs and services of the clinic.

When is dental school open?

The Dental Institute is open for patient treatment from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and scheduled academic breaks. Patient check-in will begin at 7:30 AM.

What is accepted treatment plan?

Patients will be advised of their recommended treatment and its estimated cost, as well as any alternative treatment. The accepted Treatment Plan will be signed by the patient and attending faculty member. This Treatment Plan will be entered into our dental patient management computer program, which will allow the clinic administration to track the progress of your care.

What is continuity of care in dental?

The patient shall receive continuity of care and completion of treatment. The patient shall receive care at the Dental Institute during posted clinic hours or shall receive emergency consultation by phone or, if deemed necessary, treatment at a designed location after regular clinic hours.

What do you bring to a dental screening?

Please bring photo identification such as a valid Driver’s License or Personal Identification Card, a form of payment (we accept cash, personal checks, American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa), your dental insurance card if applicable, a list of your current medications. If you had recent x-rays, please request that the dental provider’s office send them to us before your initial screening appointment. In addition, if you are pregnant and require dental care, please bring a note from your doctor.

What is a student doctor?

Your student doctor, under the guidance and supervision of an assigned faculty member, will complete your examination using comprehensive diagnostic techniques and specialty departmental consultations as needed.

Do student doctors make appointments?

Please remember that your student doctor depends on you to make your appointments as there is a limited amount of time for your student doctor to achieve the necessary clinical experiences required for graduation.

What do you learn in dental school?

In the first two years of your professional education, your dental medicine classroom instruction and laboratory work emphasizes anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, physiology, clinical sciences, and laboratory techniques. During the last two years, you will treat patients under the supervision of licensed dentists. Licensure is required for professional dental practice.

What is a dentist?

As a doctor of dental medicine (D.M.D.), also known as a dentist, you are trained to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth and tissues in the mouth, and to give advice and provide care to help prevent future problems. You help patients learn to take good care of their teeth and gums as part of overall good health. In addition, you extract or repair damaged teeth, remove tooth decay and fill cavities, examine x-rays, perform corrective surgery, and make models to replace missing teeth. Increasingly, you provide care and instruction aimed at preventing tooth loss, rather than simply providing treatments such as fillings.

Dentists provide services to populations abroad and work for agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Many volunteer to bring dentistry to aid people in developing countries.

Advancements in dental technology such as digital radiography, laser systems, and informatics will allow dentists to provide more effective treatments and to practice more effectively.

What do you bring to a dental appointment?

Can a child accompany a dentist?

Children are not permitted to accompany the patient to the dental treatment area. If your children are left unattended, your appointment will be cancelled and rescheduled. Therefore, please make prior arrangements for appropriate childcare.

Is everyone a patient in dental clinic?

Due to the nature of an academic dental clinic, not everyone is selected as a patient. If you are selected you will be matched with a student dentist who will become your primary dental health provider while you are undergoing oral healthcare at the Dental Institute.
