Before the procedure, you will be given medication or anesthesia. During the procedure, a thin viewing tool called a hysteroscope is put into your vagina and gently moved through the cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope has a light and camera hooked to it, so the endometrium can be seen on a video screen.
Dilation and curettage, also know as D&C, is a procedure to remove tissue from inside the uterus. Doctors perform dilation and curettage to diagnose and treat certain uterine conditions. Dilation is when the opening of the lower part of the uterus is widened. Curettage is when the uterine contents are removed with a curette.
A hysteroscopy is a procedure done to look at the lining of your uterus. It is the visualization of the inside of the uterus to diagnose or perform minor surgical procedures.
