What to expect

Preparing for surgery

To help you get ready for your surgery, we’ve prepared a printable version of our pre-surgery instructions.

Day of your surgery

Bathe or shower the morning of your surgery to minimize the chance of infection. Do not shave the operative area. Do not apply lotion, powder, perfume, make-up, oil, or deodorant.

Following your surgical procedure

You will either go to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or the Second Stage Recovery Unit (Ambulatory Care Unit) prior to being discharged. The time spent in these areas will vary, depending on your needs.

MedStar Montgomery Medical Center (MMMC)is in Olney, Maryland in Montgomery County. Hospital was established in 1919 and has served the community for one hundred and two years. In FY 2020 our nurses cared for 5969 inpatient admissions, 29344 emergency department visits and 2150 observation cases.
