Today, we look at medical marijuana in Illinois. Illinois is among 31 states that have medical cannabis laws allowing people with certain conditions to use marijuana and other cannabis derivatives for treatment. Medical cannabis is found in a variety of forms, including marijuana flower, edibles and tinctures, among others.

Qualifying patients who have these debilitating medical conditions may begin submitting applications beginning August 12, 2019.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is converting the existing Medical Cannabis Registry to a new system – Entellitrak. The conversion process will require the current system to go down beginning June 7, 2021.

New Applicants: Select +New MCPP Patient Registration to begin a MCPP application. If you are not sure which program to apply for, talk to your health care provider before starting your application.
To add a health care provider certification, click + New. NOTE: Health care provider’s certifications are only valid for 90 days from the date of in-person/telemedicine examination.
If you want to continue with the MCPP program, submit an extension or renewal prior to the card expiring. Refer to the Qualifying Patient Extension instructions for the extension process. An email will be sent to you when it is time to renew your card. Sign into the system using your username and password.
You need to select a 1-year, 2-years’, or 3-years’ timeframe for the renewal application. Note: If your medical condition is lifelong, the timeframe will be automatically set by the system for a three-years term. You will have to answer the caregiver question.
