In the late 1800's two brothers, members of the prominent Cone family of Greensboro, North Carolina, bought approximately 2,142 acres of property from the North Carolina Steel and Iron Company. The family went on to build a manufacturing dynasty specializing in textiles with the home office located in Greensboro.

Why was Lake Jeanette named after Jeanette Cone?

In 1940 the Cones began building Lake Jeanette to accommodate their need for water. The lake was named after Jeanette Cone, one of the granddaughters. The lake is fed by Richland Creek, and many other springs. Below you can see photographs taken during the initial construction of the lake.
