What is urogynecology in OB/GYN?

Urogynecology is the area of Ob/Gyn dedicated to the treatment of pelvic floor disorders including pelvic organ prolapse and vaginal laxity as well as urinary, bowel and sexual dysfunctions. Conditions include overactive bladder, stress incontinence and vaginal laxity and pelvic organ prolapse. In-office evaluation and consultation may include cystoscopy and bladder function testing. Depending on results of evaluation, some treatment recommendations may include medication for overactive bladder, surgery to restore pelvic anatomy or sling procedure for stress urinary incontinence.
