How to prevent respiratory infections?

Public health officials recommend the following steps to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including influenza and COVID-19: 1 Avoid close contact with people who are sick. 2 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. 3 Stay home when you are sick. 4 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue. 5 Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others. 6 Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands often, using either soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel for at least 20 seconds. 7 Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
