Who is the new nurse practitioner at Alpine women's center?

Kimberley Forthofer, APRN joined Alpine Women’s Center January 20th, 2021. After receiving a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA with a concentration as a family nurse practitioner in 2009, she began practicing in primary care in Pullman, WA.

How did alpine women’s Center begin?

How it all began… Alpine Women’s Center began in 1998 as a women’s care facility in Whitefish, Montana and with one doctor, Dr. Randy Beach. In 2002, another doctor, Dr. Mirna Bowden was added to help with the growing clientele in the valley.

When does menopause occur?

In these cases it is referred to as induced menopause. When menopause occurs naturally, it tends to take place anywhere between the ages of 40 and 58 , with an average age of 51. But for some women it can occur as early as the late 30s, or as late as your 60s.

What is a pre-conception check up?

A pre-conception check up is a consultation with your doctor about your plan to become pregnant and what you need to do to help prepare your body for an impending pregnancy. This type of thing would have been unheard of a generation ago. Most women wouldn’t have scheduled an appointment to see the doctor until pregnancy was confirmed by a home pregnancy test, or at least expected due to a missed period or two. And that may remain true for some women today, but more and more woman are beginning to understand the importance of being healthy before you become pregnant, and giving your child the best chance from the very beginning.

What is a Pap smear?

Pap Smear. A Pap test is a test of a sample of cells taken from a woman’s cervix. The test is used to look for changes in the cells of the cervix that show cervical cancer or conditions that may develop into cancer. It is the best tool to detect precancerous conditions and hidden, small tumors that may lead to cervical cancer.
