Who interprets breast exam?

Your exam will be interpreted by one of our board certified radiologist physicians who specialize in breast imaging. A report will be completed and sent to your provider.

Why do we need a mammogram?

A screening mammogram is performed annually to look for signs of breast cancer in patients who do not have any current symptoms.

What to do if you have a previous mammogram?

Obtain your prior mammograms and make them available to the radiologist if they were done at a different location. This is needed for comparison with your current exam and can often be obtained on a CD. Exam Preparation - You will be asked to undress from the waist up and to wear a gown during the examination.

What is the contrast material used in MRI?

MRI exams commonly use a contrast material called gadolinium. Gadolinium can be used in patients with iodine contrast allergy. A patient is much less likely to be allergic to gadolinium contrast than to iodine contrast.

How long does it take for a mammogram to be interpreted?

Screening mammograms are interpreted the same day unless we are awaiting a comparison study from an outside facility. It may take an additional day for results to become available to your provider. You will also receive a letter from us informing you of your test results.

How much radiation is needed for a 3D mammogram?

Using a standard measure of radiation dose, milliSievert (mSv), the total dose for a screening 3D mammogram is about 0.5-1.0 mSv. People in the US are typically exposed to an average of about 3 mSv of radiation each year from background sources such as radon in the average home, living at a higher altitude, or on plane flights. This dose is slightly more than a chest x-ray but much less than the dose from a typical fluoroscopy study or CT scan.

What can cause MRI scans to be damaged?

They may cause burns or become harmful projectiles within the MRI scanner room. These items include: jewelry, watches, credit cards and hearing aids , all of which can be damaged. pins, hairpins, metal zippers and similar metallic items, which can distort MRI images. removable dental work.
