A screening mammogram is performed annually to look for signs of breast cancer in patients who do not have any current symptoms.
Obtain your prior mammograms and make them available to the radiologist if they were done at a different location. This is needed for comparison with your current exam and can often be obtained on a CD. Exam Preparation - You will be asked to undress from the waist up and to wear a gown during the examination.
MRI exams commonly use a contrast material called gadolinium. Gadolinium can be used in patients with iodine contrast allergy. A patient is much less likely to be allergic to gadolinium contrast than to iodine contrast.
Screening mammograms are interpreted the same day unless we are awaiting a comparison study from an outside facility. It may take an additional day for results to become available to your provider. You will also receive a letter from us informing you of your test results.
