A parent must have their own active Secure Messaging account before they can register their child. MHS GENESIS is the first Department of Defense-wide electronic health record to be used by all military treatment facilities. By the time that MHS GENESIS is fully implemented throughout all of the DoD, patients will be able to receive care from any military treatment facility knowing that their health records will follow them.
Like all Army military treatment facilities, CAL MED currently uses several electronic health record systems for inpatient records, outpatient records, emergency room records, and other areas of care. While care teams can view patients' records in the different systems, this requires extra time to navigate all of the records.
The primary difference that patients will notice is the Patient Portal. While receiving care at MTFs which use MHS GENESIS, patients will no longer use RelayHealth and Tricare Online except for limited functions, such as requesting new providers.
While patients may be able to log on to the Patient Portal and explore it during the weeks leading up to the transition to MHS GENESIS, the Patient Portal will not be active until September 7, 2019.
The Department of Defense has a multi-year plan for all military treatment facilities to transition to MHS GENESIS. CAL MED is in the second wave of military treatment facility to transition to MHS GENESIS.
Walk-in services are non-urgent visits with a nurse or medical technician using approved protocols. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for the following services: 1 Pregnancy testing if you meet the following criteria: 2 Positive home pregnancy test or more than one week late for menstrual cycle 3 No more than one walk-in pregnancy test will be authorized within a seven day timeframe 4 Walk-in services are only for qualitative testing (positive or negative) 5 Provider-directed blood pressure checks 6 Routine medication injections, such as depo-provera, B12, testosterone 7 Strep/Sore Throat (as the primary symptom) in patients ages 3 years and older for less than 10 days 8 Suture or staple removal, dressing changes 9 Urinary Tract Infection symptoms in females over age 18-64 (urinary frequency, burning or urgency). 10 If accompanied by back/side/flank pain, please book an appointment with your provider. 11 Male patients, please schedule an appointment 12 Wart treatments after initial provider visit and establish plan of care

COVID-19 tests are available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. for symptomatic and asymptomatic/surveillance tests. Report to the COVID clinic on the ground floor of the main clinic; follow the floor decals for testing. Test results are returned within 2-3 days and posted on the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal.
