We are the region’s only state designated trauma center - treating the most critically ill and injured patients in southeastern New Jersey. When faced with a traumatic event, you may feel that your world is spinning out of control.

How much experience is needed to treat a trauma patient?

The more experienced the healthcare facility, the better a trauma patient's chances of survival. In fact, the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma suggests that this level of experience can be obtained by treating 600-1,000 trauma patients each year. We see more than 1,400 trauma patients per year at USA Health's Trauma Center.

What is a Level I Trauma Center?

People who experience an accident or other trauma can find specialized care in the region’s only level I trauma center at USA Health University Hospital in Mobile, Ala. Trauma is accidental or intentional injuries that lead to life threatening situations.

What happens to trauma patients in the ICU?

Once a trauma patient’s immediate needs are addressed and their health stabilized, they can be transferred to our adult ICU for further critical care. Traumatic bone or joint injuries can happen on the court, the field or just about anywhere.
