What is a feasibility study in healthcare?

A feasibility study in healthcare is part of a strategic plan designed to address a medical, acute, or long term care, in or outpatient service expansion or new development. The healthcare feasibility study and strategic planning process encompasses several components.

How many participants took part in the feasibility study?

A total of 49 participants (median age 54 years, range 28-79, 22% [11/49] male) took part in the feasibility study across the 3 cohorts. Of these, 17 completed semistructured interviews via telephone (median age 57 years, range 30-79, 35% [6/17] male).

What are the outputs of patient portal implementation studies?

The literature explored some, but not all, potential outputs of patient portal implementations. Most of the studies assessed implementation of patient portals using interim outcomes such as user perceptions, and few studies addressed important objective outcomes such as length of stay, morbidity, or mortality [2,4,20,54].

Abstract

Adherence therapy is a candidate intervention to improve medication adherence and clinical outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. The feasibility of conducting a trial of adherence therapy in this population has not been established.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

RG has developed adherence therapy but has no financial benefit from the therapy or the trial. FA, MM, DB and MP declare that there is no conflict of interests to declare.

AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS

RG and FA conceived the trial. DB, MM and MP contributed to revisions to the study design. FA wrote the first draft of the manuscript. All authors contributed revisions to the paper. All authors approved the final version of the protocol prior to submission for publication.
