What is the procedure used to examine the inside of the eye?

Diagnostic Ultrasound – uses sound waves to form an image of the eye and is used to examine the inside of your eye. Fundus Photography – a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that provides photographs of the back of the eye to help determine the health of your optic nerve, vitreous, macula, retina and its blood vessels.

What is fluorescein angiography?

Fluorescein Angiography – involves the injection of a small amount of vegetable-based dye through a peripheral vein — usually in the arm or hand. Shortly after, a certified ophthalmic angiographer takes a series of time-dependent retinal photographs.

How long does a comprehensive exam last?

As a result, an initial comprehensive evaluation, with or without treatment, could last anywhere from two to four hours.

If you are coming to our office for a follow-up appointment, your visit can last up to one to two hours, depending on the specific testing and treatment you need. For your safety, we recommend that you have a friend or family member drive you home from any appointment involving a treatment or procedure.

Our physicians are board certified ophthalmologists by the American Board of Ophthalmology and completed an additional two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship in diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous. All of our physicians completed their education and training at the premiere ophthalmology programs in the country.
