Blaser received the 2019 Robert Koch Gold Medal for his life’s work from the Robert Koch Foundation, which cited Blaser ’s work on the biology of H. pylori, a bacterium found in the human stomach that causes ulcers.
Transformative Work. Blaser has dedicated the last 17 years of his prolific career to investigating the microbiome, which is the human equivalent of an environmental ecosystem. He is convinced that the misuse of potent antibiotics has thrown Westerners’ microbiomes out of balance.
“What has become clear is that the relationship between humans and their microbiomes is a really important scientific frontier that will affect the practice of medicine. Knowledge of the microbiome is going to transform our knowledge of human health and medicine.”
The Student Health Center uses a secure and confidential online system which allows currently enrolled students to view appointments and their electronic health information, message a provider and more.
If you're an enrolled SJSU student, come to the second floor of the Student Wellness Center for primary and specialty medical care. You can see a doctor to treat an illness or injury, pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy, and even get lab tests and x-rays.
Health insurance is not required to visit the Student Wellness Center if you are enrolled as a student at SJSU. The Mandatory Health Fee (included with your tuition payment) includes unlimited primary care visits at no additional charge. Some additional services may require a nominal fee, which can be paid online.
