What is the purpose of endoscopy?

Endoscopy, which means "looking inside," is a vital tool in the evaluation of gastrointestinal (GI) problems and detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps. At its most basic, endoscopy is the direct visualization of the GI tract using specialized cameras.

Why is colonoscopy important?

Colonoscopy helps to evaulate problems such as rectal bleeding, change in bowel habits, constipation, diarhea, and unexplained abdominal pain . It is also used for screening for colon cancer screening and prevention, as it allows for the removal of precancerous polyps.
