The kiosk is located on the first floor in the main lobby. Southside Bistro is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 11 pm.
The Southside Cafe is located on the ground floor, adjacent to the main lobby and serves three meals and snacks each day for visitors and staff. For your convenience, food and drink machines as well as a bill changer are accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week in the cafeteria.
The hospital is a smoke and tobacco-free facility. The use of tobacco products is not permitted on hospital property or adjacent properties. Smoking cessation classes are offered to patients, employees and the public. Patients can discuss tobacco-free alternatives with their doctor.
However, such designated support person may be required to comply with all reasonable requirements of our facility, and be restricted to specific areas of the premises, to protect health and safety. Our facility may request documentation indicating that a patient has a disability or perform an objective assessment if no documentation is provided.
If a patient’s vision is less than 20/20 on the visual acuity exam, it is common practice to perform a refraction to determine the full vision capability of the eye, a necessary component for ruling out disease and pathology. Refractions can be obtained in several ways.
The most common for adults is a subjective refraction. A phoropter is placed in front of the patient and a selection of lenses are shown. The patient chooses the clearest lens selection and a refractive power is documented. A glasses or contact lens prescription may be written from this information.
Piedmont Eye Center will impose a reasonable cost-based fee, which shall include only the cost of supplies for and labor of copying the requested information, postage when the individual request that such information be mailed, and preparation of an explanation or summary of such information as agreed to by the individual including any person with authority to act on behalf of the individual who is the subject of the health record.
In most cases when a patient is new to an ophthalmology practice, a refraction is performed to establish a baseline of the patient’s best corrected visual acuity, the refractive power of the eye, and if applicable prescribing purposes.
2. Records that have previously been transferred to another practitioner or health care provider or provided to the patient or his personal representative; or. 3. Records that are required by contractual obligation or federal law to be maintained for a longer period of time.
MEDICAL RECORD RETENTION. Regulations of the Board (18VAC85-20-26) state that practitioners must maintain a patient record for a minimum of six years following the last patient encounter with the following exceptions: 1.
Typically, a refraction measurement is not covered by insurance. Performing a refraction measurement for best corrected vision means the patient is charged for a refraction measurement. If the work is performed, the refraction charge is viable.
