What is MCW team?

At MCW, each patient’s pancreatic cancer care team is comprised of a diverse group of specialists. Cooperative care helps ensure that every patient has an optimal treatment plan and receives the best therapy. Your team of physicians and professionals work together to create a comprehensive individualized care plan. Weekly meetings are scheduled to discuss cases, evaluate treatment options, recommend care actions, and follow up on each individual’s progress.

How is chemotherapy given?

Most chemotherapy is given via the intravenous route by specially trained nurses. Often, a port will be placed prior to starting chemotherapy. The regimen, frequency, and duration of the chemotherapy will be set by your medical oncologist.

How is radiation delivered?

Radiation therapy is delivered by a computer-controlled machine which directs multiple beams of radiation through the skin to the tumor. The course of radiation therapy for each patient will be determined by the radiation oncologist. Radiation therapy is generally given with a low dose (mild) chemotherapy.

What is the function of the pancreas?

The function of the pancreas is to produce pancreatic juices that contain enzymes to help breakdown food.

How often is radiation given for cancer?

Radiation therapy is given daily, Monday through Friday, for 5.5 weeks for some patients and in a more abbreviated course of 5-10 treatments for other patients .

What is a physical therapist?

The physical therapist combines treatment to reduce pain and improve function, through the use of pain reduction techniques, instruction in proper posture, body mechanics and spine strengthening exercises. This will facilitate your quick, safe return to an active lifestyle.

How does physical therapy work?

Physical therapy and occupational therapy work together to provide individual, cost effective, evidenced-based treatment. The physical therapist evaluates and develops an individualized program, with a strong educational foundation, to give you the tools to manage your spine disorder on a long term basis.

Does chiropractic help with back pain?

This is a non-surgical approach to treating your neck and back pain. The chiropractor will provide spinal manipulation, if appropriate, to restore joint mobility to restricted movement of the spine, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, allowing you to participate more comfortably with your SpineCare program.

What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy, including manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissues may be recommended as part of an individualized treatment program. If so, you will have the option of treatment by a SpineCare Chiropractic doctor. Spinal Injections.

How long does back pain last?

Most back pain lasts for a limited time and goes away without special treatment. However, if you have weakness, pain going down your arm (s) or leg (s) and/or pain lasting for more than a few weeks, a doctor should be consulted.
