What is a Rheumatologist?

Rheumatologists are physicians who, following 4 years of medical school and 3 years in an internal medicine residency, go on to complete an extra 2-3 years of fellowship training focused on the management of chronic musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions.

The Center for Rheumatology and Bone Research is a division of Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates, PC, a 25-physician rheumatology practice. The Center was developed to give our patients access to the most recent therapies for the treatment of rheumatic diseases through participation in clinical trials.

Patients with autoimmune disease are usually complex patients requiring multi specialty care. A team work approach, involving various specialists, is often required to help diagnose and manage complicated autoimmune conditions.

What should I do if I think I have a Rheumatic or Auto-immune disease?

It is best to obtain an initial evaluation with your primary care provider to discuss your symptoms and concerns, and to obtain further testing as needed. If your primary care provider is concerned about an underlying auto-immune disease, then they may refer you to our office.

Dr. Avnit Ahuja is a graduate of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Punjab, India. She completed her internship and residency training in internal medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Ahuja is board certified in rheumatology, internal medicine, and geriatrics.

Maria Darland, MD

Dr. Darland is a graduate of Kharkiv State Medical University in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Darland is board certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine.
