PPTA designed the Patient Notification System in 1998, working closely with the Alpha-1 Foundation, Committee of Ten Thousand, Hemophilia Federation of America, Immune Deficiency Foundation, the National Hemophilia Foundation, and Canadian Blood Services. The tests inform pregnant individuals if they have increased risk of a fetus with a specific birth defect. The fee for the Prenatal Screening Program is $221.60, whether an individual has one or two blood tests.
