Specialized Care

While most pregnancies proceed normally, some require special care. This may be due to a special circumstance known in advance of pregnancy, such as when a mother has a pre-existing medical condition. Other complications with a pregnancy may be discovered during prenatal testing or during the course of the pregnancy.

Our Services

If problems or concerns arise during pregnancy, you may be referred to the MercyOne OB Emergency Department (OB ED) for evaluation, lab tests, fetal monitoring and/or ultrasound.

Why is perinatal care important?

Quality perinatal care is essential for a safe delivery and the health of both the baby and mother. Babies have a better chance of being healthy if they have the appropriate amount of time to develop before being delivered.

How long does it take for a baby to be delivered?

Guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that babies should not be delivered until 39 completed weeks of gestation (or time in the uterus).
