MU Health Care's mission is to save and improve lives, and we work every day to ensure our patients receive the highest-quality care.
Our Family Birth Center is designed to create an environment where pregnant women can have the best delivery experience possible. We emphasize choices, and our team helps moms-to-be feel confident no matter what type of delivery they envision.
MU Health Care provides a full range of routine services for adolescents and women of all ages — from annual wellness exams to family planning and birth control. We also treat gynecologic disorders, such as endometriosis and irregular periods. Our team approach to care means you'll have access to your gynecologist and additional specialists to provide you the care you need.
In addition to routine gynecological and obstetric care, our Women's Health team offers several specialty services, including: 1 Maternal fetal medicine. These specialists care for pregnant women who have preexisting medical conditions that could lead to complications during their pregnancy. 2 Reproductive medicine and infertility. Sometimes the path to a baby requires a little extra help, and our fertility team is here to guide you through it all. We offer a range of treatments — including in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination — to help you build your family. We also provide care for conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) that may interfere with conception. 3 Continence and advanced pelvic surgery. This team is here to help women experiencing any type of pelvic floor disorder. We offer surgical and nonsurgical treatments to help you overcome these common conditions that cause pain and bowel or bladder control problems.
Medical appointments, education and support take place with a group of eight to 12 expectant mothers and partners over 10 sessions, each of which is approximately 90 minutes to two hours long. Research shows that group prenatal care has positive outcomes for mothers and babies, such as engaged learning opportunities, building a community of other moms and babies, and more time with your doctor.
MU Health Care has earned the Baby-Friendly® designation, proving our commitment to providing compassionate, leading-edge care to women and babies. We have a written breastfeeding policy and encourage breastfeeding whenever possible. We provide lactation consultant services and train all health care staff in the skills necessary to help new mothers be successful if they choose to breastfeed. Mothers who choose not to breastfeed are also supported in their decision.
Dimmer lighting and a peek-a-boo drape allow mom to watch the birth of her child.
If your baby requires special medical attention after birth, he or she will receive treatment in our state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU. The unit is staffed by a team of specially trained nurses, physicians, respiratory care practitioners, advanced practice nurses, social workers and pharmacists.
MU Health Care is the only academic health system in the region. That means our children’s health providers are also researchers and professors, and they all work together to provide the highest level of care to patients and families.
A hospital stay and medical treatments can be scary and confusing for your child. That’s why we offer support services — such as our Child Life and Music Therapy programs — to help make the experience less stressful and more comfortable.
