Midlothian Family Practice is a group of Family Practitioners capable of handling all illnesses traditionally associated with general practice except for delivering babies. We treat a broad spectrum of illnesses ranging from colds and flu to hypertension and diabetes. We have office based laboratory and x-ray facilities to support Bone Density Tests (DEXA), Mammography and Routine X-Rays. Our minor emergency areas are suitable for suturing lacerations. We perform minor office surgery including the removal of ingrown toenails and skin lesions. One of our physicians is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for hospital admissions and immediate problems.
The Family Practitioner is a specialist with a broad-based knowledge in all fields of medicine rather than an in-depth knowledge of a particular discipline.
Building on the initial concept of general practice, Family Practice requires its physicians to complete 3-year Family Practice residency after graduating from medical school.
To maintain this certification, the Family Practitioner must participate in 50 hours of continuing medical education each year.
