Dr. Echols is a proud, second generation gastroenterologist from Houston, Texas. Two little known facts about her-she has Alabama roots and an identical twin. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University (San Antonio, TX) in International Studies and Spanish. She went on to earn her Masters of Public Health (M.P.H.) from Boston University. Upon completion of her M.P.H., she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala where she developed and facilitated health, hygiene and environmental projects in four schools. Following completion of her service, Dr. Echols attended and received her Doctorate of Medicine from Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Jersey. She completed her internship and residency at Tulane University Health Sciences Center and affiliated hospitals in Internal Medicine. She further trained in Hepatology and Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellowship programs at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, IL and the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (2016) in Little Rock, AR, respectively. Dr. Echols joined Capital City Gastroenterology in the fall of 2016.
Ashley Morrow was raised in Elba, Alabama . She completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (RN/BSN) from Troy university. She completed her nursing experience as an emergency room nurse in Dothan, Alabama . She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing focusing in family nurse practitioner (CRNP) also from Troy University. She worked for Hospital Physician Services in Montgomery, Alabama until she joined Capital City Gastroenterology in 2017. She is a member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a local member of Advanced Practitioners for the River Region.
Jackie Shumate is one of our Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners who graduated from Auburn University with her BSN. She continued her education at University of Alabama at Birmingham with her Masters in Nursing becoming a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner. She joined CCG in 2018 after a five year career in Nephrology.

Dr. Mark M. Anderson was reared in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he attended the University of Alabama for his bachelor’s degree, and then UAB for Medical School. From there he completed a Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Anderson has been practicing Gastroenterology in Montgomery since 1988.
