In compliance with federal regulations, Novant Health, at its discretion, may release general information about a patient’s condition in response to a media request.
Novant Health’s policy also dictates that the permission of a patient’s next-of-kin or legal representative must be obtained before sharing information about a patient’s sudden, violent or accidental death, or death from natural causes.
However, no information will be provided without a patient’s first and last name or if the patient has opted out of the hospital phone directory.
Additionally, Novant Health will not release information about behavioral health or substance abuse patients or those under the age of 18 without prior consent from the patient or the patient’s legal guardian.
The patient's general condition may be released only if the inquiry specifically identifies the patient by name, and if the patient is listed in our patient directory.
No information shall be released when a patient specifically requests it.
