What services does OHSU provide to patients and their families?

Services include free interpreter services for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or who have limited English skills.

What is considered a disability at OHSU?

A disability may include a physical, intellectual, behavioral or cognitive impairment, deafness, being hard of hearing or other communication barrier, blindness, autism, or dementia. Support people must follow OHSU’s infection-control standards and OHSU policy for safety. The patient or their representative decides whether support is needed.

Why does OHSU post their surveys online?

OHSU's core values include quality, transparency and service excellence. Provider ratings are our way of living those core values.

Who is NRC?

NRC Health administers our patient survey and serves 75% of the top 200 health systems in the US.

Who receives the survey?

Patients who are seen at OHSU's outpatient clinics receive a survey. Surveys are conducted by email and by phone, using interactive voice recording (IVR). Outreach occurs within 24-48 hours of appointments.

What does an OHSU chaplain do?

OHSU chaplains provide spiritual support to patients, their families and OHSU staff regardless of religious affiliation. We provide spiritual guidance, prayer, emotional support, and comfort. We help ensure that the spiritual needs of you, your family, and your loved ones are addressed during your hospital visit.

What is a support person in a hospital?

“Support person” means a family member, guardian, personal care assistant or other paid or unpaid helper chosen by the patient to physically or emotionally help them, or make sure they can communicate with hospital staff.

How many healthy parents can visit a patient at the same time?

Two healthy parents or guardians at a time may visit: A baby in the hospital nursery. A child's hospital room. Two healthy people age 18 or older per day may visit a patient at the same time during end-of-life care. Surgery and other procedures.

Can you bring a baby to OHSU?

Patients can bring one healthy person who is 18 or older. Exception: New parents can bring their baby who is 6 months or younger to the OHSU Center for Women's Health for postpartum and other visits. Older children cannot come with you. If needed, we can offer you a visit by video or phone instead.
