What is VRI in nursing?

Interpreter Services is implementing VRI (Video Remote Interpretation) at the main campus. This service will allow quick access to Interpreters for Spoken Languages as well as American Sign Language (ASL). Each nursing unit has been equipped with their own device, and there is also one in the Emergency Department.

Armando Verea was born in La Habana and was raised in La Playa de Santa Fe where he lived until the age of 12 when he moved to Florida. Since then he has lived in the USA where he attended college in Florida and earned a Bachelors of Science in education/major physical ed/minor psychology and in Connecticut where he obtained his master’s in social studies. He worked as a teacher in a bilingual program and with the State of Connecticut. In his professional life being bilingual has been an important part of his job. In 2012, Armando decided to become an interpreter, pursuing his certificate as a continuation of his professional history and personal values as a human being. He has worked at Cooley Dickinson for 8 and ½ years.

She was raised in Massachusetts and earned her Associates degree as a medical assistant; she is also a billing coder and she is certified as an electronic health record specialist. Mariel worked in those fields before deciding in 2012 to become a medical interpreter and earned her certificate.
