How does patient involvement improve quality of care?from ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Promoting patient involvement in health care delivery may lead to improved quality and safety of care [14,15] by enabling patients to spot and report errors in EMRs, for example [6]. Some patients recognize the role of patient portals in their health care, reporting satisfaction with the ability to communicate with their health care teams and perform tasks such as requesting prescription refills conveniently [3,16]. Portal use may reduce in-person visits, visits to emergency departments, and patient-provider telephone conversations [3,8-10,12,16]. Despite the potential of portals, already used in the ambulatory setting for some time, implementation in the inpatient setting has only recently gathered momentum [17-19]. The inpatient setting presents additional challenges for implementing patient portals [18,20]. Clinical conditions leading to hospitalization are often acute and the amount of medical information generated during this time can be extensive, which may overwhelm patients [20] and challenge information technology to rapidly display this information.

Why are patient portals important?from ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

While the evidence is currently immature, patient portals have demonstrated benefit by enabling the discovery of medical errors, improving adherence to medications, and providing patient-provider communication, etc. High-quality studies are needed to fully understand, improve, and evaluate their impact.

When did NBMC open?from nbmchealth.com

NBMC has been in the business of caring for Coos County residents since we opened our doors in 1972 at our original North Bend Clinic. Six short years later, we realized we would need to build a much larger facility and hire more physicians to keep up with the growing needs of our community. In 1978, we continued the tradition of providing excellent care to our patients by opening a brand new clinic in Coos Bay. Today, our 120,000 square foot, modern facility houses many services, including: primary care, specialty care, a full-service lab, day surgery, imaging department and the Immediate Care Clinic. We are also conveniently located on the same campus as Bay Area Hospital and the Bay Area Cancer Center.

What does it mean when you say "open at 8am"?from yelp.com

If you say you open at 8am... please be ready to open at 8am. That means to have everyone in place to welcome patients and answer phones. I called the NBMC operator at 8:03am and asked for my daughter's doctor. She tried to make contact, but came back on and said, "Please give them 5 minutes to get settled and turn on their phones." One would think that if you say you are open at 8am, you would be ready at 8am... at least that is what it used to mean.

When my dad's primary healthcare provider is off duty, does he have to cover?from yelp.com

When my dads' primary healthcare provider is off duty (typically every Wednesday and Friday afternoon) *no one* covers. Instead, for clarifying questions or for a significant yet non emergent need, the patient is expected to seek care at an Urgent Care clinic or the Emergency Department, or wait and suffer -- abandonment that unnecessarily increases patient anxiety.

Where is Christian from?from northstatemedicalcenter.com

Christian was born in a small, rural town in southwestern Pennsylvania. From an early age, he knew that he wanted to go into medicine, but it wasn’t until sometime later that he knew he wanted to be a physician assistant. While at his pediatrician’s office for a case of strep throat, he received exceptional care from what he would later find out was a physician assistant. From that point forward, he decided that this was the path for him. Christian would go on to fulfill that goal by applying out of high school and attending an accelerated 5-year PA program at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA, where he went on to get his Bachelor’s of Science and his Master’s of Physician Assistant Sciences. While in school, he also competed in the sports of cross country and track at the NCAA Division-II level. After graduation, he would go on to work in outpatient psychiatry until his path led him to North State Medical Center, coming onboard in March of 2020 in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Today, he feels blessed to see patients of all backgrounds, and enjoys both the unique challenges and the routine care that are staples of working in primary care. Patients can expect to have an invested, understanding, and enthusiastic provider that takes a team-work based approach, but will use tough love if need be. In his spare time, Christian loves to stay active by running, lifting weights, hiking, and cycling. He also is a drummer of 20 years, enjoys cooking, and is a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey club.
