Day 2 and 8 PCR Testing is mandatorily required by the UK Government if you are arriving in the UK from overseas. It has been introduced to monitor COVID-19 variant mapping and control across the country. A PCR test must be administered (either as a self swab or as an in clinic swab) on or before Day 2 of your self-isolation period, and then another test on or after Day 8. All arrivals must also quarantine for 10 days, either in an approved hotel (if returning from a red list country) or an alternative approved location (if returning from any other country).
The Antigen test is an inhouse processed test that can tell you if you are currently infected. The test detects specific proteins — known as antigens — on the surface of the virus, and can identify people who are infected but it is less accurate than the PCR test.
