When is free testing in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts is offering free testing from July 10 – October 31 for asymptomatic residents of Massachusetts (no symptoms). Individuals with symptoms, or individuals that have been in close contact to someone with COVID-19, will have testing fully covered by their insurance company (without co-pays or deductibles).

How long does it take to get a call from a child's test?

If your child’s test results are POSITIVE, you will receive a call within 24-48 hours. If your child’s test results are NEGATIVE you will receive a phone call in 3-5 days. If you have not received a call within 48 hours you can assume your child has tested NEGATIVE.

Can you get tested in Massachusetts if you are out of state?

Out-of-state residents are not eligible to be tested as part of Massachusetts’ free Stop the Spread testing initiative. Out-of-state residents who pre-register will need to have a doctor’s order faxed to the Call Center at 978-946-8488 and will need to provide their insurance information to the Registrar.

Does a nasal swab hurt?

Lawrence General Hospital is currently using a nasal swab. It is not as deep as previous tests and is generally not painful. In fact, most people describe the swab as a tickle that makes their eyes water but does not hurt. It only lasts a couple of seconds in each nostril.

Does Massachusetts require pre-registration for Stop the Spread?

No appointment or pre-registration is needed for residents of Massachusetts under the “Stop the Spread” testing provided by the state of Massachusetts. Testing also comes at no cost for asymptomatic individuals. Pre-registration and an appointment is required for those coming from out-of-state and for pre-surgical/pre-procedure testing.
