Lady of the Sea Hospital became a reality following the organization of the Lafourche Parish Hospital Service District No. 1 on February 3, 1953. Patient portal apps typically allow patients to share their health records with providers, enabling them to gain a longitudinal view of their patient's health history. Like Epic's MyChart, some apps even allow patients to provide temporary access to their medical records via a code.
This is due to a lack of internet access. According to the AMA, 25% of people don't use a patient portal because they don't have internet access. Over one in six people in poverty don't have internet access. Lower-income people in rural areas face even more limitations.
The most frequently reported downside to patient portals is the difficulty providers often face in generating patient buy-in. Although providers are generally aware of the health perks of using a patient portal, patients are seldom as excited about the portal as they are.
Some patient portals also allow you to: Securely message your doctor. Request prescription refills. Schedule non-urgent appointments....Using a secure username and password, patients can view health information such as:Recent doctor visits.Discharge summaries.Medications.Immunizations.Allergies.Lab results.

It has been more than two months since families could visit the facility. Parent Lori Rachel Nichols says she has been taking her kids for more than eight years. However, just a few month sago, she didn't know if they'd ever be able to return. "We didn't know if we'd get to this point or not," said Nichols.

Patients who are users of MyWVUChart should be aware that they will be notified via e-mail when there is new medical information to be viewed on MyWVUChart. This means that any person with access to a patient’s e-mail will be able to see this notification. This could include the patient’s spouse, employer, or anyone else that can access a patient’s e-mail account.
