Many of our patients are experiencing great success having virtual visits with their care providers. Keck Medicine sees more than 1,000 patients daily through its virtual platform.

What are the safety precautions for a hospital?

We have implemented the following safety precautions: 1 Before entering our buildings, all patients, staff and doctors are screened for COVID-19 symptoms, including fever. They are all provided with a face mask, which must be worn. 2 Hand sanitizer is widely available, and we encourage its use. 3 Physical distancing practices are in effect, including in waiting areas and elevators. 4 In order to minimize time spent in the waiting area, we are scheduling more space between visits and registering patients via telephone. 5 Doctors and staff are using the proper PPE for all visits. These may include a mask, protective eyewear or a plastic face shield. 6 Our facilities are continuously cleaned and our clinical areas, including examination rooms, are thoroughly cleaned before and after all visits. 7 COVID-19 patients and dedicated care teams are isolated on separate floors, using exclusive walkways and elevators. 8 Preoperative patients undergoing high-risk procedures are tested for COVID-19 48-72 hours prior to their appointment. Any patient that tests positive will be rescheduled. 9 If a visitor has any fever, cough or shortness of breath, they will not be allowed to enter our buildings.

What is an ETC clinic?

If you are a Keck Medicine patient, Keck Medicine operates an Evaluation and Treatment Clinic (ETC) at Keck Hospital of USC that offers urgent, non-emergency services to treat medical issues such as a urinary tract infection or a complication from a chronic illness.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Keck Medicine has reported strong staffing levels, sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies and regular and ongoing employee testing for COVID-19. During this time, our health care teams have safely provided urgent non-COVID-19 care using robust infection prevention that is in line with guidance from local governance and professional medical organizations.
