We now live in a computer-oriented world, and the healthcare area is no different. Long gone are the days when your doctor writes down a few notes on a piece of paper in a manila folder, then scribbles out a prescription.

A fully integrated, HIPAA compliant patient portal gives patients unprecedented levels of access to their provider. For medical practices, it dramatically increases productivity. Reducing reliance on in-person visits and phone calls, while bringing the practice into compliance with the CURES Act for patient information. For example, with our assessments, providers can assign an assessment to a patient who can then fill it out remotely via the patient portal website.
Patients can access the ability to pay online when they use their patient portal login information.

Patient portal. Your primary care clinic may have an online patient portal. These portals offer an alternative to email, which is a generally insecure means to communicate about private medical information. A portal provides a more secure online tool to do the following: Communicate with your doctor or a nurse.
If your doctor is in a large health care system, the portal also may provide a single point of communication for any specialists you may see.
Telehealth is the use of digital information and communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, to access health care services remotely and manage your health care. These may be technologies you use from home or that your doctor uses to improve or support health care services.
A study of urban telemedicine use for acute care compared to suburban populations without telehealth use. The study found an overall cost savings, due largely to reductions in visits to the emergency department. The study found that the use of telemedicine increased healthcare access substantially in the urban population. Also, providers reported that a majority of office visits could have taken place via telemedicine.
A policy brief on the current state of telehealth in rural areas at the federal level. The committee makes a number of recommendations regarding expansion of telehealth to traditionally underserved areas, mostly concerning barriers caused by current Medicare reimbursement policies.
An assessment of policies and regulations, identifying which agencies have the ability to regulate telehealth and the scope of those regulatory authorities. The authors point to successful government implementations of telehealth, but also acknowledge the lack of consistency across policies and the murky status of the law around telehealth.
Increasingly, telehealth technologies are being adopted and implemented as an efficient and cost-effective means for delivering and accessing quality health care services and outcomes .1Telemedicine has the potential to reduce American health care spending by decreasing problems like medication misuse, unnecessary emergency department visits, and prolonged hospitalizations.1,3Telehealth provides access to resources and care for patients in rural areas or areas with provider shortages, improves efficiency without higher net costs, reduces patient travel and wait times, and allows for comparable or improved quality of care.1,3Better access to care, convenience, and reduced stress with telehealth use also can increase patient satisfaction.3Although patients and providers enjoyed the benefits of telehealth, the widespread adoption of telehealth has unfortunately been hampered by a variety of barriers including technology use among older adults and Internet bandwidth speeds in rural or underserved areas. Despite these barriers, telehealth acceptance will likely continue to increase as patients and providers become more adept at and comfortable with using technology instead of face-to-face interactions.3
