What is the watchman device?

Patients with atrial fibrillation are typically prescribed anticoagulants to reduce the risk of stroke. The WATCHMAN device is an alternative for patients with atrial fibrillation. Implanted by a heart specialist, the WATCHMAN device reduces the risk of stroke so you do not need to depend on anticoagulant medications. At Cardiology Associates of Schenectady, we offer a specialized WATCHMAN program.

What is a TAVR?

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR, is one of our minimally invasive cardiology services performed by Cardiology Associates of Schenectady at Ellis hospital. During this procedure, a cardiologist inserts an artificial aortic valve without removing the natural valve. This is a minimally invasive procedure involving only a catheter. If a heart specialist has diagnosed you with aortic valve stenosis, you may be a candidate for TAVR. Learn more in this video.
