What to Expect on Your First Visit

Your visit may be telehealth or in person. If you don’t remember, please call our office to verify. If your visit is telehealth, you will receive a call from your nurse the day before with the process to check-in. Plan to arrive at least thirty minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

Where did Robert Eckart go to medical school?

Dr. Robert Eckart graduated from M ichigan State University with a degree in physiology before attending medical school in Philadelphia. He then embarked on career in the United States Army, with training in Honolulu and San Antonio. From 2004 to 2006, he trained in cardiac electrophysiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and returned to Texas as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service, San Antonio Military Medical Center. He has been board certified by the ABIM in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and serves as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Eckart’s clinical interests include complex ablation and device management including extraction and venoplasty. He has published over 50 articles in the peer-reviewed literature and has co-authored 5 textbook chapters on resource utilization in the evaluation of syncope and atrial fibrillation, and epidemiology of cardiovascular and arrhythmic disease. Although Dr. Eckart served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army with overseas duty in Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan, he has been coming to Sarasota for nearly 40 years, spending time with grandparents in Venice as a child, and more recently, his in-laws in Tampa.

Where is Dr. Hepp?

Dr. Hepp is originally from Philadelphia Pennsylvania and relocated to Sarasota Florida with his wife and 3 children back in 1990. He built Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s first Electrophysiology Lab and was director of the Electrophysiology Lab for many years. Dr. Hepp was involved in many research projects including antiarrhythmic drug therapy studies as well as Pacemaker and ICD studies. He brought many new ICD technologies to Sarasota and worked with all the major Pacemaker and ICD companies over the years. Dr Hepp graduated from Tufts Medical School in Boston. He did his internship and residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He completed his Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellowship at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He is board-certified in Adult Cardiovascular disease as well as Electrophysiology. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his children, working out, traveling, as well as cooking.

Where is Grant Luce?

Grant Luce is a native of Sarasota , who graduated from University of Florida in 2002 with a Bachelor of Health Science degree. He went on to complete his Physician Assistant education at Nova Southeastern University, receiving dual Bachelor of Science and Master of Medical Science degrees, and publishing his master’s thesis (co-authored with Morton Diamond, MD) in the November 2006 issue of Emergency Medicine. After becoming board certified in 2006, Grant practiced cardiology and hospitalist medicine prior to joining Heart Specialists of Sarasota in 2013. He is passionate about living an active and healthy lifestyle, and in his free time enjoys weightlifting, boxing, running, and is a member of the Manasota Track Club. He lives locally with his wife and 2 daughters.

Where is Matthew Johnson?

Matthew Johnson is originally from Wisconsin obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in 1998. Before becoming a Physician Assistant, he spent 5 years in clinical research at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, during which time he co-authored many peer reviewed journal articles. He has obtained a Master’s Degree in clinical medical sciences in 2006 at Barry University in Miami, Florida. He obtained his Physician Assistant certification in 2007 and has since practiced in cardiology initially in Port Charlotte, FL before moving to Sarasota, FL in 2013. Previously he worked as a Physician Assistant in hospital medicine and internal medicine. Matthew enjoys spending time with his family, is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys swimming.
